Job Description: 

General Summary

Develops and monitors procedures and programs to increase process efficiency, maximize equipment performance, maintain quality of product, improve working conditions, and decrease operating costs to lowest possible level.  Exercises close vigilance over employer-employee relations. Responsible for communication and of Company policies and procedures.  Establishes priorities of maintenance and repair activities.

Principle Duties and Accountabilities

  • Supervises entire plant including machinery, structures, and equipment.
  • Operates various mechanical equipment, power-driven machinery, and electronic controls to convey, sift, sort, store, mix and discharge sand, gravel, rock, and other materials. 
  • Performs a variety of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance duties at all plants such as replacing belts and belt links, greasing bearings and rollers, rebuilding and/or replacing rollers and cleaning machinery, and reports any equipment needing maintenance or repair. 
  • Sets up routine programs of inspection, testing and preventive maintenance for engines, motors, fixtures, conveyors, regulators, pumps, valves, distribution systems, machines, and equipment. 
  • Orders and reviews necessary parts and equipment purchased. 
  • Responsible for plant safety oversight to ensure all employees are working safely and abide by company policies and procedures and to assist with establishing plant safety culture.
  • Responsible for employee relations to include morale building, communication, coaching, and discipline.
  • Performs various inventories as needed.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition at all times.
  • Responsible to abide by and support all company and plant safety policies, rules, and procedures as well as M.S.H.A regulations.

Educational Skills and Experience

  • High school Diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years on-the-job experience in various mechanical positions, upgrading through the various levels with increasingly higher amounts of responsibility including organizational and supervisory functions. 
  • Proficiency with computers and use of software such as word, excel and outlook is preferred.
  • Must possess extremely high mechanical aptitude and knowledge of various craft tools. 
  • Must have the ability to organize work activities, assign duties and evaluate the performance and attitude of subordinates. 
  • Must possess the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, as well as communicate clearly with plant personnel. 
  • Must be capable of establishing and maintaining effective and compatible working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and other plant employees. 
  • Must be able to read, understand and obey all safety rules and regulations, equipment operating instructions and danger notices. 
  • Must be a team player who is safety conscious and quality driven.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Must possess good analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to occasionally travel (including overnight) up to one (1) week at a time.
